Welcome and thank you for your interest in U of D Jesuit High School and Academy.
Since 1877, U of D Jesuit has earned a reputation for academic excellence and for a commitment to faith and service. St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, opened the first Jesuit school in Sicily in 1548, and in the 460 years since then Jesuit Education has gained an unmatched worldwide reputation. Tell someone you have received a Jesuit education, and they'll immediately expect more from you.
Over 800 students in grades seven through twelve currently attend U of D Jesuit. Last year, 99% of our graduating class went on to college, including 30 to Jesuit universities. In 2007, U of D Jesuit students took 210 AP exams covering 15 subjects and scored a 3, 4, or 5 on 76% of them. The class of 2008 had eight National Merit Semifinalists, which is more than any other Catholic school in the state.
U of D Jesuit has long been known as the academic powerhouse in the state of Michigan. However, our commitment to the City of Detroit, to diversity, to human rights, and to social justice truly sets us apart. As a Catholic, Jesuit school we seek to develop leaders who recognize that we most often see the risen Christ through other people: our family, our friends, the poor, and those around us every day. With a deep commitment to Jesuit Ignatian spirituality, we place this goal first. Our "prime educational objective is to form 'Men for Others' for the greater honor and glory of God."
In the great Jesuit tradition, U of D Jesuit seeks to enroll a diverse student body of young men who are academically ambitious and who are open to the idea of growing more and more into "Men for Others." Most of the families who investigate U of D Jesuit are drawn to us because they are looking for something more, what St. Ignatius called "the Magis." For decades, we have attracted students and families who are drawn to us because they recognize that U of D Jesuit holds fast to its core value and mission, and they wish to be a part of that mission. This makes for an exceptional student body.
