About U of D Jesuit

Mission Statement

The Mission and Tradition of U of D Jesuit

University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy is committed to providing the highest quality of Jesuit college preparatory education to young men in southeast Michigan.

U of D Jesuit, in collaboration with parents, will challenge its students to go beyond academic excellence, to be reflective, to be committed to the service of personal faith and the promotion of justice: to be "Men for Others."

U of D Jesuit will provide an atmosphere of learning and individual spiritual development that reaches into the larger community.

Goals of Jesuit Education:

  • Open to Growth: A Jesuit education means openness to personal growth and openness to new ways of knowing and experiencing the world.
  • Intellectually Competent: A Jesuit education means striving for academic excellence.
  • Religious: A Jesuit education means finding God in all things.
  • Loving: A Jesuit education means treating others with compassion and respect.
  • Committed to doing Justice: A Jesuit education means being a "man for others" by offering one's talents in service of the kingdom of God for the betterment of our world.

Our Commitment to Diversity and to Southeast Michigan

In 1976, after a process of consultation and discernment, U of D Jesuit decided to remain within the city of Detroit, at our current location on South Cambridge. With this decision, the school made a conscious choice committing itself to diversity (racial, religious and socio-economic) and to serving the entire metropolitan region. This plan recognizes, as part of our Jesuit mission, our commitment to the poor, to diversity, and to our home in Detroit.
